The Goalkeeper's Dilemma
In traditional hockey stat-tracking, the scoresheet only records who scored the goals and which cards were shown. The goalkeeper—who faces blistering drag-flicks, chaotic deflections, and high-speed 1-on-1 shootouts—is often left with a single basic number: goals conceded.
A goalkeeper who makes 18 world-class saves during a 2-1 defeat deserves recognition and deep tactical analysis. Did the goals come from defensive circle turnovers, unstoppable top-corner Short Corner drag-flicks, or rebound scrambles? Where are opponents aiming most frequently?
